OUR MISSION

Nestled in the beauty of the Texas Hill Country, we are a 501c3 nonprofit providing Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) for low income children. Our mission is to make trauma recovery accessible to the children that need it most.

Healing Through Connection: The Trauma-Focused Natural Lifemanship Approach

At Roots & Reins, we utilize the Natural Lifemanship approach to equip children with the tools necessary to transform emotional and behavioral challenges. Grounded in neurobiology and attachment theory, this method is uniquely suited for children who have experienced trauma. We focus on the relationship between the child, the horse, and the therapist as the main vehicle for change. Children practice establishing healthy boundaries and cooperation with the horse, without submission or compliance, building a strong connection that feels safe and predictable. Through these experiences, they develop the self-awareness and self-control necessary to form secure attachments and build resilience in all areas of their lives.
